Douglas M. O'Grady (b. 1974) is currently Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Georgia College & State University. Originally from the Massachusetts and Rhode Island areas of New England, he earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Theory and Composition at the University of Alabama, the Master of Music degree in Theory and Composition at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, and the Bachelor of Music degree in Theory and Composition from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. He has taught as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Alabama and the University of Louisiana, and taught as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.  

         At Georgia College & State University, Dr. O'Grady teaches Music Theory, Composition, Ear-Training and Sight-Singing, and Music Technology. He serves as an iPod Project Leader, and as the College Music Society Campus Representative. In the past, he has served as the Faculty Liaison for the GC&SU Fine Arts Residential Living-Learning Community.

         As a composer, Dr. O'Grady has had performances of his acoustic and electronic music at concerts and festivals across the country including the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival, the Southeastern Composers' Symposium, the International Women's Brass Conference, International Tuba Euphonium Conference, and SCI Regional and National Conferences.   Composition awards include the SCI/ASCAP Student Commission Competition, and the Frederic Goossen Award for Composition.   He has studied composition with C.P. First, Tristan Murail, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, and Charles Fussell. In addition, he has studied electronic music with David Z. Durant, David Taddie, and Robert T. Adams.

         Dr. O'Grady is a member of the College Music Society (CMS), the Society of Composers Inc. (SCI), the National Association of Composers in the United States of America (NACUSA), the International Computer Music Association (ICMA), the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, and the Percussive Arts Society (PAS).
